What a morsel of fall is good for
I’m not sure if I can adequately explain to you how restoring it was to frolic, for a moment, in fall. The sun hides away but colors abound in other spaces–bright green splashes, a yellow that is startingly salient, reds and oranges that swirl into each other, the deep, rich brown of dark, damp bark. There’s a slowness in the air that is absent in sunny SoCal, where seasons are muted almost to the point of imperceptibility. But is being in tune to the rhythms of the earth worth the seasonal slog of depression that is ushered in by the scarcity of sunshine? Or do we actually suffer more here as we force ourselves to feel happy, because, hey, at least it's sunny...
