We walked up into the hills
and my friend led me alongside the milpas altas
to where the calla lilies grew.
 
A coincidence or 

the breath of the holy spirit

mingling in our midst?

In the highlands of Guatemala on 
what would’ve been my mother’s 57^th birthday,
I stumbled upon her favorite flowers, 
the very same sort that 
sashayed their way into her wedding bouquet.
