the dance of darkness and delight
Some may say the two shall never meet,
dear darkness and delight
but I know better for I have seen them
dance in the morning glow
embracing the painful glory of
life and loss and love
in a two-step, tango then flamenco
oh darkness and delight
Elegantly they frolic,
sometimes in harmony,
sometimes in unrest,
the one never forsaking the other
as the spin, leap and sashay their way
through a forest and a glade,
a somber yet joyous promenade
Til darkness stumbles and trips a bit,
and delight nearly swoops on in
but then pauses,
gives her space
lets her breathe
before lifting her up, wiping her tears,
and dipping her at the hip
Darkness never departs from delight
their fates long intertwined–
which neither seems to mind
for they exist in tandem
exuding hope and sorrow
at once ecstatic and morose
in their carefully choreographed chaos,
dear darkness and delight dance
to a beat named "mundanity,"
to a chorus christened "lush"
