A meditation on love and loss
08.14.24
None of what I write here is novel nor sweet
but tells a heartbreaking, excruciating truth:
we cannot love without knowing that
loss will come.
the deeper our love, the more
earth-shattering
our loss
yet we cannot live without loving
so we lean in,
falling hard for our people
and when they are no longer there to
catch us we
hit the ground
hard
skinned knees
scraped hands
the physicality
of our grief
lingers
then we rise, tending to our wounds,
embodying that age old adage,
we suppose it was
better to have loved and lost than
to never have loved at all.
