snippets of Sitka
i.
The salmonberry practically
falls off the bush into
my outstretched palm,
tasting of tart mist.
ii.
Plants are so cool!
They grow out of
rocks and stumps and things.
iii.
Fog might bother
the unsuspecting hiker
Or it can delight, intrigue, inspire.
iv.
In some parts of the country,
pigeons pose upon lampposts,
the occasional seagull
or crow might be spotted there as well.
But in Sitka, Alaska,
rugged and quaint,
two bald eagles perch above a busy bridge
stoic, they seem unperturbed
by the vehicles passing below
their presence, a stately sign that they were here first.
