un canto que brilla
12.18.2024
orchids of blazing orange and pink
an emerald green largatija de mesquite
the dark gray lava stretched out
as far as the eye could see
the speck of sunscreen
on a young man’s face
the expansive blue sky
a sweaty embrace
the dry yellow of head-high
stalks of grass
the vital red of blood poking out
of scrapes, rocks that cut like glass
full of pain and glory,
we are but specks of dust
sometimes running, often trudging,
in these little legs we trust.
